Based on demands and pressures beyond their control, mobile network operators are now required to increase the levels of automation across all areas of their networks to meet the operational and economic requirements of their customers. The “holy grail” waiting at the end of this automation journey is known as autonomous networks.
Decades of technological advancement on multiple fronts have provided operators with tools to achieve virtualised and programmable networks. Unfortunately, these tool now also present a need for new mindsets and skills in network software design as well as operating practise within the network itself.
This talk will outline some of these practical challenges as well as discuss how Rakuten Mobile is addressing these concerns to move towards autonomous networks.
